Brendan Bennett - Wasted Time (feat. Supa Bwe)
Emerging star Brendan Bennett shoots his shot in Chicago
“A relationship can put you through hell, but the memories, lessons, and growth you go through as a person can't be replaced or traded for anything in the world." -Brendan Bennett
A third Bennett has emerged on the Chicago scene, and is shooting his shot at the hearts and minds of the city’s culture. This Bennett, however, is bringing his own spin to Pop with his new collaboration with Chicago star Supa Bwe.
While the song may highlight the process of forgetting a past lover, one thing is for certain: you won’t forget Brendan Bennett.
Hailing from Florida, the singer/songwriter who favors anthem-worthy hooks and world class vocals has recently joined arms with the Chicago based management label Propelr. Since then, Brendan has turned heads in the industry of those who pay attention most.
After releasing his latest single “Wasted Time” with Chicago’s beloved Supa Bwe, we knew Brendan was something different.
The song opens up to the sensational melody: a rustic guitar loop played to sonic perfection. As soon as Brendan joins in the opening seconds, the tone is set. With the vocal reach and engineering of Post Malone and the organic, authentic tone of John Mayer, Brendan has pioneered a whole new wave of R&B/Pop.
“I’m just trying to forget you, but I can’t get you off my mind” sings Brendan over the wavy production. Although the song’s writing may reflect melancholy, it’s energy favors triumph; a ballad for all those who’ve overcome emotional despair and extracted some of love’s most important teachings.
"I started writing this song after a tough break up with a college girlfriend… I really wanted to highlight the pain that comes with sacrifices we make and to remind people that the time spent with those you loved is never wasted”.
At just a minute and fifteen seconds into the record, Supa Bwe barges in and showcases his legend. The Chicago native, as he always does, sings with his heart on his sleeve. “She’s under my skin, in the back of my head, was once a conscious is her voice instead” sings Supa.
A short track with the lyrical weight of a novel, “Wasted Time” is destined for endless replays and streams. Afterall, hardly a soul in existence can’t identify with the brilliantly calibrated theme.
We once marveled over Big Boi and Andre 3000, Eminem and Royce Da’ 5’9, Q Tip and Phife Dawg… now is the dawn of Brendan Bennett and Supa Bwe. Two emerging stars, two different stories, one cohesive art form. Hopefully “Wasted Time” is nothing but a minute taste of what the two have to offer in collaboration going forward.
